Description |

Here at National Highways, we currently have an opportunity for an Environmental Specialist to join our team in Nottingham. As a Specialist, you will be involved in the development of schemes at all stages of delivery; feasibility, design and construction. You will also be carrying out environmental inspections relating to environmental topics and liaising with other parts of the business, local authorities, statutory bodies and customers. The work will involve maintaining inspection records and ensuring regional assets are correctly installed and maintained.
You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position
What you’ll be leading on
- Providing technical capability within the discipline
- Awareness of UK legislation and guidance on environmental topics – noise, air, waste
- Develop and implement processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery, and the quality, of output within the discipline and on individual projects
- Monitoring the condition of environmental assets and use of monitoring equipment
- Production of business cases where significant investment is required i.e. designated funding projects
- Evaluating environmental data to develop future renewal and improvement projects, including the compilation of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management.
- Identify and grow environmental improvement opportunities for our customers
- Environmental inspection and audit of civil engineering projects
- Provide representation for National Highways at local authority working groups and internal meetings
- Involvement in delivery of environmental key performance indicators
To be successful
- Applicants are likely to have a BSc/MSc in a relevant environmental discipline and membership to an appropriate professional body.
- Experience of working in teams including designers, developers and regulators including liaison and consultation.
- Strong understanding of relevant environmental asset policies and strategies
- Experience of environmental management systems
- Knowledge of Design Manual for roads and bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network.
