We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join our Hertfordshire and North London area Groundwater and Land Quality team.
This role is primarily concerned with the protection of groundwater quality. The role is predominantly office based with occasional off-site meetings and site visits. You’ll contribute by providing technical assessments and advice with respect to planning and environmental permit applications. You will be working with other teams and experts internally and local authorities and developers externally.
The Hertfordshire and North London patch is uniquely busy within the Environment Agency with a mixture of rural, suburban and heavily urbanised areas that are all under significant pressure to provide additional housing and jobs. We manage a variety of aquifers including the Chalk Aquifer that are crucial for providing drinking water as well as base flow to our beautiful Chalk Rivers.
Where you will work
Our Welwyn Garden City base location has a hybrid model allowing individuals to work either at home or at our office (a minimum number of days in the office per week will be agreed with your line manager and will be dependent on business needs and reviewed periodically).
What do you need:
• We are looking for individuals who are familiar with the assessment of sites affected by previous contaminative land used, the challenges associated with brownfield land development and an understanding of processes that can impact on groundwater quality.
• You will be numerate with a background in earth science, environmental science, hydrogeology or environmental chemistry
• You will already have some experience working in the environmental consultancy, environmental regulatory or contaminated land sector
• Ideally you are familiar with qualitative and quantitative soil and groundwater risk assessment methods and numerical modeling tools (for example Consim, Landsim and RTM)
• You will be a self-starter able to deliver project tasks with good time-management, IT and written and verbal communication skills
